The Delicious Health Benefits Of Walnuts

This salad is not only delicious, but it is also made densely nutritious and good for you by the use of walnuts. And you can tell, just by looking at them!

What do I mean? Well, the appearance of your food can often give you an idea of what health benefits the ingredient will provide. For example, walnuts. The texture of walnuts resembles the folds of the brain, and guess what, walnuts are an excellent brain food. Just a small handful of walnuts can provide a full day’s supply of essential omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega-3s help to improve your memory and cognitive function, as well as reduce chronic stress, anxiety, and even lessens depression symptoms. The essential fatty acids found in walnuts also support those suffering from adrenal fatigue. As if that wasn't enough, this recipe is a rich source of melatonin; walnuts can help you get better quality sleep. Just a handful of walnuts an hour or two before going to bed can aid deep good night's sleep and help you naturally de stress.

Apple Walnut Salad With A Protein Boost

You can visit Nyssa's recipe to make her version of this nutritious salad, or give my low carb, high-protein recipe a go. Its made in a matter of minutes and bursting with flavour. My version doesn't use the vinaigrette, but rather focuses more on the natural flavour of the ingredients. But if you love a good vinaigrette, you'll absolutely love Nyssa's dressing recipe on either salad; its so tangy and good!

Apple Walnut Salad With An Herbed Lemony Dressing

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Romaine lettuce, organic

  • 1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley, torn

  • 1/2 cup shredded green cabbage, raw

  • 2 green apples, Granny Smith, finely chopped

  • 1/4 cup cauliflower, raw and finely chopped

  • 1/3 cup crushed walnuts, organic

  • 2 hard boiled eggs, organic, free-range

  • 1/4 cup Greek feta or vegan cashew cheese

  • 1 tsp crushed garlic

  • 1 tbsp cooking oil, coconut or extra virgin olive

  • 1 pinch of cracked pepper

  • 1 drizzle of balsamic glaze (optional)

In a large serving bowl, add the apple, lettuce, parsley, cabbage, cauliflower, and toss in the oil and seasonings. Crush the walnuts and fold into the salad mix. Crumble the feta cheese over top. Using a egg cooker (or stove top) cook the eggs to hard-boiled. Slice and add to the top if the salad; drizzle with balsamic glaze (optional).
